Contents may settle during shipping. You’ve probably seen this statement on cereal boxes and other products, right? Manufacturers use that statement because the vibration of the trucks the product is shipped in causes it to fill in any empty spaces, reducing the overall volume of the product.
Cereal companies use bag-in-the-box systems so it is not an issue for them. For most of our customers, however, shipping costs are calculated on the size and number of boxes, so if their “contents settle during shipping,” they’re spending a lot of money to ship air.
A simple solution is to place each box on a compaction table fitted with an industrial vibrator during filling. This settles the contents and, depending on the product, can allow you fill the box with up to 20 percent more by weight, substantially reducing shipping costs.
At Martin® Vibration Systems, we have hundreds of compaction table products that fulfill a wide range of needs. We’re happy to discuss your operation’s needs and help you determine which product can help you streamline your process and reduce your costs.
