While this may sometimes work, it’s risky. Hitting the side of a metal container with a steel hammer is a jarring, even violent, action. Done repetitively over time, those hammer blows can weaken welds and rivets, dent the equipment, and damage electrical connections, which means the equipment has to be replaced or repaired frequently.

A bin vibrator or hopper vibrator, when applied properly, is gentle on equipment so it lasts longer. The frequency and amplitude of the vibration motion is adjustable, so you can apply only as much force as is needed.
